PROJECT #51: MIDLAND AREA RIVER DAYS
Education & Awareness
August 2-4, 2024 | Midland, MI | Tittabawassee River
6 Interactive River Events
Throughout the weekend, visitors had the opportunity to participate in six different river activities.
1st River Cleanup
Midland Area River Days featured a river cleanup this year, from Chippewa Nature Center toward the Tridge.
$1,000
Donated to the Midland Area Community Foundation in support of this river-focused community event.
INVESTED IN COMMUNITY SUCCESS
For the third year, our Director of Marketing, Katie Horning, served as chair of the committee to oversee all aspects of the event and reporting. Together with the Midland Area Community Foundation staff and River Days board volunteers we were able to collaborate with local organizations to host a successful River Days. While the weekend features a variety of events like music, performances, and fireworks, this year we were proud to feature six events that directly interacted with the river:
- River cleanup led by Chippewa Nature Center
- Run the river led by Greater Midland Community Center
- Kayak poker run led by Nor'East Outdoors
- Voyageur canoe paddling led by Chippewa Nature Center
- Kayaking lessons run led by Nor'East Outdoors
- River history led by Midland County Historical Society
This weekend saw around 24,000 visitors of all ages. Being able to support an event that is free to the local community and gives everyone the opportunity to learn about the role our local rivers play in our community is exactly the education Rivers are Life is proud to support.
