MIDLAND AREA RIVER DAYS FESTIVAL
Rivers are Life was proud to sponsor the Midland Area River Days Festival in our very own backyard of Midland, MI in August 2023. This community event helped us highlight the work of River Hero, Cash “The Conservation Kid” Daniels. We’re inspired by Cash’s monofilament bin creation, which he uses to collect and repurpose fishing line waste, and we’re excited to partner with him to bring these bins to Midland waterways. (His first project outside his home state of Tennessee!)
Cash joined us for the festival to introduce our film, “The Conservation Kid” before the outdoor screening on Friday, August 4. The film, which premiered in May 2023, shares the story of 13-year-old Cash and his efforts to clean up his hometown waterway, the Tennessee River.
On Saturday, August 5, our Rivers are Life booth provided festival attendees the chance to create a monofilament bin themselves. A face painter and giveaway only added to the fun. The 50 monofilament bins we created are being placed around the Great Lakes Bay region and will be maintained by local collaborators to provide anglers a place to properly dispose of fishing waste for years to come.
Rivers are Life was set up near our partner, BeAlive, who sold merchandise to help support our River Hero. Cash personally hand-picked his favorite items from BeAlive’s clothing collections and 20% of all proceeds were donated to his nonprofit organization, The Cleanup Kids.
